Attention watercraft owners - early lake lowering
Notice: Due to the deteriorated condition of the downward slope of the east dam, resulting from the 9/14/08 rain event, and after consultation with our engineer and the IDNR, the lake will be lowered one foot as a precautionary measure effective October 15, 2008. WEEKLY "CURBSIDE" LEAF COLLECTION IS UNDER WAY
No Bagging, No Burning, No Pollution!
When:
Starting October 27th (pick-up day may vary each week due to weather, volume of leaves, etc.) through December 5th.
Where:
All Dalecarlia and Fairways streets within the boundaries of 153rd Ave, 161st Ave / Main St, Clark St and Colfax St.
What to Do:
Pile leaves (no branches), un-bagged, within 5 feet of the street where they will be vacuumed up as part of the Lake County Solid
Specifics:
The program is being limited to only two collection trucks this year so Bob's Tree Service will make a complete pass through each of the (4) unincorporated areas using both trucks before moving on to the next area. The cycle will then repeat. We are area #4 and will therefore be last on each cycle. It is anticipated that each area of the (4) areas will be picked-up twice during the 7-week program; however, due to the uncertainty of how many days each area will take to complete there are no specific dates as to when pick-up will occur for Lake Dalecarlia and the Fairways. It is recommended that you have your leaves gathered and placed along the edge of the roadway (unbagged) so they can be picked up when the trucks reach our area.
Who to Contact:
For specific details about the collection program for our area please call Bob's Tree Service at 219-962-8332.
Leaf Burning Facts:
Every 5 pounds of leaves burned emits about 1 pound of pollution into the air, including volatile organic compounds and carbon monoxide. Ash from burning ends up in our lake and soil, creating more pollution. Smoke from burning exacerbates health problems like asthma, bronchitis and emphysema while causing mild eye irritation and severe congestion in healthy people.
Volunteers Needed
We have an ongoing need for volunteer support for a variety of interior and exterior projects requiring carpenters, electricians, concrete workers, gardeners and general labor. Also, a number of our standing Committees need additional members. PLEASE consider donating your time for one or more of these vital projects. Donated time keeps our costs down which in turn helps control the Annual Assessment. Interested volunteers may call 219-696-0771 or e-mail poaboard@lakedalecarlia.org. Leave your name, telephone number, availability and the type of work you are able to do and/or the committee you would like to serve on.
