| GFWC Lake Dalecarlia Woman’s Club – May 12, 2009
The meeting was opened by President Geane Anderson. Members also present were: Bridget Grudzis, Judy Wolff, Sharon Webb, Virginia Dobrzeniecki, Ginny Feyes, our hostess Barb Stone and co-hostess Alane Walk. Alane gave the thought for the day – Be happy with what you have, and then the group recited the pledge of allegiance. Secretary Ginny read April’s minutes.
The drawing tickets and letters went out in April, and so far the community is responding. Two members said they did not receive letters/tickets, and President Geane will try to get a copy of the names/addresses used by the printing company, so additions can be made.
Treasurer Bridget gave the members copies of the May report.
What is happening” from the agenda:
- Lake Dalecarlia Scholarship – After discussion, Barb made a motion that a scholarship of $250 be given to a Senior graduate in June and going forward, each mid-term (by Nov 15) and by May 15, end of year. If no applicant applies for the mid-term scholarship, the $250 will be held until the next term. Seconded by Sharon W. Money will be kept in a special scholarship fund until it is needed. Graduates must present an acceptance letter from their college of choice, for our club to pay the award. Bridget, Alane and Virginia volunteered to work on this committee.
- The Big Ten meeting on May 23rd in Crown Point. Anyone who has been a President is welcome.
- The May 9th Bake Sale was a success. President Geane asked all who participated to submit what each member spent and hours worked, for the annual report.
- Virginia and Alane told the group that the June 9th dinner/meeting will be held at the Lighthouse in Cedar Lake at 6:30. Light Drawing winners will be chosen at this special event.
- Barb, Virginia, Judy and Geane volunteered to help Lowell GFWC with Salvation Army Donut Day sale on June 5 or 6 in Lowell.
- The GFWC/IFC Council meeting will be in Indianapolis at the Embassy, July 17 & 18.
- For our Veterans: Save stamps, post cards, sport cards, coins, paper money.
- The annual “Kitty Pillow” project will take place in the fall. Save plastic bags. Ginny will sew pillow cases.
The club is still seeking a member to take over publicity for meetings and events. Also needed is a Fund Raising Chairperson. Contact President Geane if you wish to chair these positions.
From our October 2008 meeting, it was brought up that the book our club was to donate to the Lowell Library on American Indian Culture in memory of past member Alma Finney has not been done. Also a book in memory of Nancy Rossetto was to be given. Sharon W offered to contact the library to determine what books are needed. Once the library responds, the money will be spent for these special gifts from GFWC Lake Dalecarlia Woman’s Club.
The International Convention is being held in Cleveland on June 11-14. Look for information in the GFWC magazine. The Regional Meeting will take place in October. Again, check the magazine.
The Lake Dale Fire Department Auxiliary is having a traveling bake sale on June 20th. Be sure to support it. There will be no meetings in July or August. Dues will be due in September.
If you are interested in making a difference in your community and would like to know what we’re all about, call the number in the newsletter for information on GFWC Lake Dalecarlia Woman’s Club.
Respectfully Submitted,
Ginny Feyes, Secretary
